Launch of Volkswagen Golf MK5
In the previous post we discussed what is the right decision? Going for a brand new Volkswagen MK6 or to buy a used cars volkswagen golf mk5 or below? And we saw how familiar was the new Volkswagen with the old ones. Today we'll be discussing a lot about the predecessor of the Volkswagen Golf MK6, which happens to be the Volkswagen Golf MK5. Lets get on with it.
It was in October 2003 during the Frankfurt motor show that Volkswagen Golf MK5 was unveiled to the public. This particular fifth generation of the Golf cars, actually has been built upon the PQ35 platform which is otherwise known as the Volkswagen Group A5. As you probably might know, the Golf is sold as Rabbit in the North America. Thus in 2006 this car reached NA with the different nameplate - as "Rabbit". In fact in 2006 this car was priced for less than $15000 which was a steal for almost all car lovers, and the same was depicted for quite a long time in the TV ads.
Design Aspects
Many people believe that the success behind the MK5 car lies in the engineering team which did marvels. In fact there are rumors that Volkswagen poached this team from the Ford Company. And this team was the one responsible for the famous multi-link control blade independent rear suspension system. Matter of fact; this was one reason why the Volkswagen Golf MK5 was capable of superior road manners and gained a name in the best car handling. A used volkswagen golf of version MK5 would definitely be a steal compared to the a brand new one, especially if you are living in North America. Because even if you buy a used car volkswagen golf, you'd only be buying a car which is hardly 2-4 years old which is not bad for any second hand car. One thing to note in this car is the fact that the hatchback space is reduced by almost 3 cubic feet.
This time Volkswagen seems to have cut down on the quality of the interiors. The interiors don't seem to be that lush as it was in the previous versions of Golf. Many believe this is mainly because to strategize the price of the car such that it gives sufficient competition to its direct rival Audi.
Lets Talk about Engine
One good thing about Volkswagen group is, they vary the engine and transmission type from country to country, and they also make sure that it fits the best. Probably that is the reason why Golf happens to be among the best sold cars even till date. Generally, MK5 comes along with a Four cylinder engines that lives on petrol. Another type of engine is powered by a brand new duse unit injector which happens to have TDI (Turbocharged Direct Injection) Diesel Engine. When we talk about the transmission, there is a wide range that is developed by Volkswagen for MK5. It includes the DSG (Direct shift Gearbox), the Automatic, Manual and also Titronic.
Specifically Volkswagen Golf GTI has 2 liter capacity engine with 4 cylinders and featured with FSI (Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection). This is the major reason as to why this version of the car is capable of pumping up to 197bhp of power and has a staggering torque of 280 Nm. On the side of transmission, it provides DSG with six speeds, and also Manual gear changing with 6 speeds.
Diesel or Petrol?
The Volkswagen Golf MK5 is not just limited to the regular versions, in fact if you are looking for used volkswagen golf, then you can better go for the GT version of the Golf too. Because it was during 2005 september, Volkswagen Golf MK5 GT rolled out. This particular car gave the people a choice to choose between the TDI engine of 2 liter capacity and TSI twin charger engine with 1.4 liter capacity powered by petrol. They are available in two different maximum power output options. The launch of GT eased people's pain of going for a car with restricted fuel access. Now people had the choice of choosing either the petrol or diesel car and also the kind of power output that they were expecting out of their car.
